Sunrise Saturday – OBX

Since most of my posts this week have been about our trip to the Outer Banks last weekend, you probably aren’t surprised to learn that today’s Sunrise Saturday post features an OBX sunrise.

Actually, these were taken quite awhile after sun-up. But I thought the clouds made for a pretty sky.

We were on our way to meet our friends for breakfast. If you’re familiar with the Outer Banks, you know that there’s a bypass and there’s a beach road. We were driving on the bypass, but decided to take a quick detour down to the ocean.

Motor Man pulled over, and I trekked across the sand to get pictures. And yes, I got sand in my shoes.

Hmm. How long til summer?

Although I was just a child when this wonderful Drifters tune was getting airplay, once I discovered it, it became one of my all-time favorite songs:

They just don’t write ’em like that any more.

  1. Yummy photos….very pastel and soft……nothing more calming than a beach!

  2. Good Morning Dianna! I just saw you over at E.C.’s so I knew you probably had your post up this morning. Lovely beach photos. Love the fence and the sun trying to shine through those pretty clouds. Gotta love the Drifters!

  3. Just beautiful! One of my favorite sunrise venues…the ocean. We are on the way to Florida for 2 weeks, so hope to get some good warm weather shots! Have a great weekend.

  4. so pretty…that third shot, with the clouds taking on that soft, pink hue is my favorite. The sky here was glowing pink like that “atop” the snow covered trees yesterday morning…but my iphone wasn’t sensitive enough to pick up the glow…just love these ~ and I’ll be back to listen to the song when hubby’s not watching the news! Enjoy your weekend.

  5. Too true about those old songs. The Drifters were great!!!
Beautiful pictures, the sky is lovely and what a fantastic beach. Thanks for sharing.

  6. These look like pictures from a travel magazine. The second and third ones are lovely. And The Drifters, do love it!

  7. The sunrises and sky pix you just “happen” upon — you are a blessing, Dianna. I’m listening to Sand in my Shoes, but I know if I step out on my porch right now I’ll have nothing but snow in my shoes….

  8. My favorite sunrises were always at the beach. No two were alike.

  9. Everything is better at the beach and well worth the ‘Sand in my Shoes’! Nothing beats a sunrise/sunset over water!

  10. thanks for explaining OBX. you’ve used that term before, but i’d have been scratching my head trying to remember what it stood for. 🙂

  11. I love the colors in your photos. They are so peaceful.

  12. Looks so peaceful- I don’t think there is any place I’d rather be than on a beach!

  13. The beach yields photos you can’t really get anywhere else … and here’s proof! The fencing is the perfect touch; the pics wouldn’t be the same without it!

  14. Ahhhhh beautiful sunrises, sandy beaches, water……..does my heart good to see this on a cold and snowy Michigan Saturday!

  15. What a contrast your pictures are from my world of white (about 5 inches of snow) today! So I’ll just let your lovely photos and that great song transport me to a warm beach. 😉

  16. The shot with the sunlight filtering through the clouds is particularly nice 🙂

  17. What a lovely start to breakfast with friends!
Thanks for the YouTube song…loved it.

  18. What’s a trip to the beach without getting sand in your shoes! 🙂 Beautiful photos. I’m ready for summer!

  19. soft, pretty sunrise. i have never been to the outer banks, i will have to put that on my travel wish list ;)))))

  20. What a lovely post! Makes me yearn for summer.

  21. As I said in my last comment when I read you were visiting the OBX – I love the OBX! Since our youngest son and his family are moving back out there in February, I am excited to have once again, a free place to stay when we visit – as we have every year for some time now! Where did you go? We are in love with Duck, but we love Roanoke Island (Manteo and Wanchese), and Nags Head, KDH, and Kittyhawk, and the southern parts – all the way to gorgeous Okracoke! Nothing like the sunrises there – whatever the weather!

  25. Breathtaking. What a gorgeous place and time to be there. 🙂
