Capturing Our Spring

This is the prompt I chose today for Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop:

4.) Share a picture that you think captures Spring for your family this year.

And here’s my picture:

This photo shows the results of just one trip to the nursery/greenhouse this spring. (There have been many.)

Within these boxes are:

3 Coleus plants
2 Lantana
4 Muhly grasses
1 Dahlia
1 Mussaenda
4 Angelonia
3 Phlox
and 2 little shrubs with blue flowers that don’t have a name. Well, I’m sure they have a name, but I don’t know what it is.

You’re probably thinking that this picture certainly shows what Spring is like for ME, but what about the other members of my family?

Well, Marshall has accompanied me on many of my greenhouse trips. He has helped me carry the loot merchandise to the car. He and Motor Man both have been patient as I searched high and low at several locations for Black-Eyed Susan vines. I finally found those, but they aren’t shown in this picture.

As for Motor Man, he helps me plant the items that are in the bigger containers. Post-hole diggers aren’t very girl friendly, so he helps out with that job.

And I’m proud to report that everything in these boxes has been planted either in a flowerpot or in the ground.

But what’s still waiting to be planted shall remain my little secret. My friend, Pam, says I’m a plant addict. And I think she may be right.

I’m seeking therapy. But in the meantime, where’s the nearest greenhouse?

Linking up to Mama Kat’s.

  1. HA! That’s quite a “haul” there Miss Dianna….but I just bet your yard is looking gorgeous with all your new additions – you’ll have to share a photo of the gardens after the post-hole guy has done his thing and the gardener (aka YOU) has finished sticking things in the ground. Addicted? Yeah…but you’re not the only one!! 😀

  2. Dan and I always say…as we are driving into the parking lot at Lowes, or Home Depot, or Walmart, or anywhere that has plants…we are NOT buying anything that has to be planted, watered or tended today…sometimes we actually get out without buying anything, but usually not! I love your “loot”! I am sure your yard is simply beautiful!

  3. I’m sticking with hanging baskets and potted plants that I can keep out of reach of the puppy. My perrennials are taking a flogging from her as she chases grasshoppers or butterflies. I can only imagine what she would do to my usual plantings. I bet your yard will be spectacular. You’ll have to post pics as it grows and blooms.

  4. Holy crap! Now that makes me jealous. I bought all perennials so that it would force me to stop plant overhauls like that! But I’m sure that it will turn out magnificent 🙂

  5. Hope Mother Nature is kind to you and your garden this year so you won’t have to do all the watering!

  6. Oh my you’re busy! Those plants and flowers have found a great home!

  7. Looks like you are capturing it well! I would imagine, your yard every year is to die for. Lantana is one of my fav’s and so is having some occasional “man-help”!

  8. I am a flower addict although I a trying out native grasses too, but don’t have the money for my habit at the moment. However, I splurge on plants when I can find a good deal or get seeds or bulbs from others for free or trade. I just loooove flowers and a pretty landscape. Hope you get to enjoy all of your new plants!

  9. Such a gift…Wish I had a green thumb – or the patience to develop one! I’m grateful to those who do who share their gift and make everything beautiful for the rest of us!

  10. Hat’s off for getting it all planted. Waiting with waning patience here to get the corn in between rain…

  11. spring certainly should include many trips in search of plants. There’s just something about the coming of the ‘growing’ season that makes your hands itch to get in the dirt!

  12. a gardening fool. 🙂 (but i’m still lovin’ ‘that ole moss!’)

  13. Glad you found the Black Eyed Susan vines … in vine form 😉 Looks like some great selections in the loot !!

  14. Please take us on a tour when you are finished, dear… Also, totally off topic, but did you see that OBX is featured in National Geographic this month?

  15. Your post made me laugh, though in a good way! I have to very sternly tell myself “no more” whenever I’m within striking distance of a flower seller. I just can’t seem to resist them, but I was good yesterday and even tho I think I whimpered a bit, I didn’t stop and buy.

  16. This looks like fun! Will you show us pictures when they’re planted? I’ve had to resort to containers this spring because we’re so dry here.

  17. We haven’t bought near the amount that you have, but I love having color around. Right now we are hoping that the rose bush that we transplanted will stay healthy in its new spot. And taking a 6 year old who loves red with you to the nursery will guarantee that most of the flowers will be red.

I’d like to see your plants now that they are planted.

  18. That’s quite a haul, girl! I’m sure you’re going to treat us to beautiful photos of all your ‘addictions.’ Can’t wait! We managed to get some annuals planted in our front porch boxes and pots, but hubby is still trying to get the vegetable garden planted.

  19. Wonderful post! Yep, that’s my kind of spring! I get the most overwhelming sense of needing PLANTS every spring! 🙂 If it’s a sickness, I don’t want the cure! By the way, your friend Linda and I have made a connection! She asked about my Suffolk fence, and it just went from there! 🙂

  20. Oh my! Like you, I love getting all my flowers planted. AND, I always find it hard to find a “stopping” place. My husband and his FFA kids, have the only greenhouse in our area, so you can imagine…I really go overboard 🙂

  21. I don’t know what I’m more jealous of…your new plants or that amazing view! Strike that…I WANT YOUR VIEW!!

I know your yard will be lovely. There’s something so rewarding to see the beautiful after all the hard work is done. Hope you and Jr enjoy.

  23. Were there any plants at the greenhouse after you left? lol You did have quite a bounty. I’d love to see pictures of your black-eyed susan vine when it blooms!
