As mentioned in yesterday’s post, we went to the Outer Banks Saturday and drove up on the beach in search of wild horses. They’re more difficult to spot in cooler weather, so when we saw a couple on one of the “back roads”, we thought that might be our quota for the day.
But then we saw a few horses on one of the dunes, and, finally, we were in the right place at the right time, and saw four by the water.
Just to show that things aren’t always as they seem, doesn’t it appear that this horse is rising up out of the sand?
No, he was just getting back on his feet after a relaxing rollover. The horses tend to just stand for long periods of time, so it’s a treat to see them in action.
This beauty is showing off her winter coat. My horse knowledge is limited, but doesn’t it appear that a little one may be on the way?
As I’ve said many times, it’s always a thrill to see any of the Corolla wild horses, but especially so when the ocean is their backdrop.
(This makes two subsequent posts about horses. I promise a different subject tomorrow.)
~These Days Of Mine~

Looks like you’re right about the one mare…..she seems a little “droopy” and I bet there will be a new beach baby soon!

Never tire of the horse pics, especially when they’re on the beach. My husband’s family used to count the number of times a horse rolled and said that told you how much she was worth. “Yours” are priceless!!!
That mare does seem “with foal.” Yep, I bet there will be a new beach baby. Your photos of these gorgeous creatures with the ocean as a backdrop always make me smile. 🙂
