Random Five Friday

Today’s R5F won’t be entirely snow-related, but since we’re still dealing with the 6-8 inches that fell Monday evening, it seems to be dominating most of my thoughts.  The snow hasn’t gone anywhere, schools are still closed, it’s three (3) degrees right now with a wind chill of minus-zero (-0), and I haven’t driven in four (4) days.  Who’s ready for spring?

1.) Speaking of spring, this isn’t the best quality photo (it was taken through a window), but we had a huge flock of FAT robins in our yard yesterday morning. Do they know something we don’t?

2.) I shared this on my Facebook page earlier this week, but I thought the rest of you might also enjoy a chuckle. We soften our ice cream in the microwave for a few seconds to make scooping it easier. Sunday evening, after dishing up our nightly treat, I mistakenly/absentmindedly put the container (almost an entire half gallon, by the way) back in the microwave, rather than the freezer.  I discovered it the next morning. Note all that delicious cream nearly filling the glass tray…. sigh. And thanks to  Motor Man for helping clean up THAT.

3.) Our front yard yesterday during morning’s golden hour.

“Just remember, in the winter,
far beneath the bitter snow, lies the seed,
that with the sun’s love, in the spring, becomes the rose.”

4.) It’s waiting for spring, too, and some pretty plants in that “bucket basket”.

5.) And, in closing, yesterday’s sunset over our icy river.

Does your randomness this week include snow? Or melted ice cream?

  1. Your snow pictures are really beautiful especially since I can see them from the warm comfort of my recliner. I don’t think I’ve been outside in 2 weeks. I don’t like the cold, not to mention the “s” word.
That’s become the newest bad four letter word for a lot of people this winter!!

  2. Your pictures are always so beautiful – and that fat lil Robin looks particularly well fed! I haven’t put ice cream in the microwave but I did find my keys in the fridge once! 😉 MJ

  3. The snow is crunchy now. I went to fill up the feeders and walked on top of it because it is so cold. Brr. I am headed south to Alabama for a week today and it is going to be nice to be out of the snow even if the weather there is chillier than normal. I don’t care as long as there is no snow!

  4. I’m ‘over’ the snow too – ready to go back to school. Did I say that??? Your pictures are beautiful. It’s tough on the animals. We’re watching a deer making its way around our field nibbling on the low branches. And, YES, I soften ice cream the same way – haven’t put it back in the microwave, but I have put my curling iron in the freezer to cool it and then forgotten to go back and get it to pack it in my suitcase! :>

  5. Our randomness includes snow and freezing rain on the way! I haven’t been out of the house in 6 days… might have to bust out today 🙂 The ice cream cracks me up… maybe CH will stop teasing me about the dish towel he found in the cabinet!

  6. I put chia seeds back in the fridge where the milk belongs this morning….sigh. I love the golden hour shot across your lawn! Also, I just noticed this friday link up – thought you might like it.

  7. Such beautiful photos of your winter wonderland. Stay well, keep warm. Our crazy weather goes from 40’s to 70’s when this morning’s sweater is way too hot by afternoon. Your robin red breast is certainly round.
I’m so sorry about the ice cream. 😦

  8. #2 is so something I would do, too! Thank you for telling on yourself. 😉 I bet those robins are feeling rather duped, don’t you?

  9. Love that bike in the snow pic. Stunning!
And that little robin is adorable ^_^

  10. I keep telling myself it will soon warm up, it will soon warm up, it will soon warm up. So since that didn’t work I will continue, like you, make the most of it and stay indoors and read, knit, watch tv and cook ice-cream?

  11. laughing at the ice cream! sounds like something i’d do. 🙂

  12. Great photos……I’d like to see a combination of melted ice cream and snow and say “give me MELTED SNOW!”.

  13. No snow in AZ – but I love seeing your photos!!

  14. Yeah… I’m pretty tired of it … but at least the roads are ok for the most part ..
.. & it does make for some amazing pics …

Sorry to hear about the BlueBell… that hurts … ; )

  15. Excellent 5!
    Stay warm!

  16. You all got hit super hard. I hope when it starts to thaw that it goes smoothly and quickly.
Thanks for the sharing your smile of the ice cream. It’s good to see I’m not the only one who does silly stuff like that and also has a sweet husband who helps to clean up the mess. We are lucky gals. 🙂
    Take care and stay warm.

  17. As usual, beautiful pictures 🙂 I especially love the one of the Robin 😀 And don’t feel too bad about the ice cream… been there done that 😉

  18. The Robin brings a bit of hope for spring! Great photo Dianna. And even though I saw your microwaved ice cream on FB, I laughed again seeing it here. Isn’t it lovely to be blogging on these cold snowy days?

  19. Snow, snow and more snow and bitter cold here too BUT the sun is shining and that always makes me cheerful! That and reading your blog. The ice cream thing….sounds like something I would do. 😉

  20. What a pretty setting you live in! A small slice of Paradise.

  21. oh no, i had to laugh at your ice cream accident…sounds like something i would do haha…beautiful snow photos and i love that old bike! we are supposed to get a few more inches here tonight! i am so glad you linked up this week!! i hope you will again on friday! 🙂

  22. The Rose–a good reminder. Happy to see robins again.
