(Step) Father’s Day

Although Motor Man has only been Marshall’s step-dad for nine years, he was a friend of the family for several years before Marshall was born. So Marshall doesn’t remember a time that he didn’t know Motor Man.

Motor Man and Marshall -1987

The two of them have changed a little since this photo. Motor Man hasn’t given Marshall a piggy-back ride in years. Marshall’s baby teeth were replaced by his permanent ones, and facial hair has replaced his Kool-aid mustache.

Happy Fathers’ Day, Motor Man, from Marshall and me. And thanks.  For everything.

  9. Always good times! And, even though I don’t remember that ride, we’ve decided not to recreate it! Happy Father’s Day!!!

  10. Happy Father’s Day to Motor Man, and to all dads and stepdads who step up to the plate and love the kiddos with all their hearts.

They are both blessed to have one another.

  16. HI Dianna, nice post! Hope MM had a great day, and you too!

  17. A beautiful post, Dianna. And a wonderful reminder that Father’s Day should pay tribute to all the wonderful father figures out there who do things like give Kool-Aid mustache sporting kids piggy-back rides. Love that picture – it really seems to speak to their relationship!

  18. Aww, that’s so sweet! Step dads can be just as important as the real dads for sure. Love that Marshall went from a Kool-Aid mustache to a real mustache. Beautiful writing per usual.

  19. fathers day is always rough for me. My father died when I was 5 and even though I was young, I have several memories of him and me together. My mom has several home videos from when we were young and my older sister and I cherish everyone video, photo, and memory. I always wished my mom would find someone else and we could have a great step-dad but never happened. I still wish she would find someone sometimes! 🙂 Marshall is a lucky guy.
