Strange Skies

Looking back through the pictures on my computer, I realized that I’d never shared these from one afternoon back in September.

It was an interesting day as far as clouds go. Motor Man and I were driving down the highway, and, as he so often does, he pulled over for me to take this.

But when we got home, we found an even more amazing sky.

Keep in mind that the sun is actually setting BEHIND me.  You probably recognize the gazebo and pier in the picture from my sunrise shots.

It would take someone much more scientifically inclined than I am to explain this. I’m just glad I had my camera.

  1. Glad you had your camera too, to share. Very unusual…refracting like a huge prism.

  2. Strange skies indeed – but beautiful nonetheless….that beam of light is – well – rather otherworldly! Nice shots Dianna……keeping that camera at the ready often pays off big time doesn’t it?!

  3. If it weren’t for the ships in the foreground, I’d have thought ‘Lion King.’ Sunrays streaming always make me think of God; on Sunday and otherwise.

  4. These are stunning! So many mysteries lie withing the sky.

  5. Sorry… should be within.

  6. Really interesting display….God always has something wonderful for us!

  7. It’s just beautiful and strange and reminds me of Heaven.
Or maybe there was an alien spaceship beaming folks up…

  8. Very interesting Dianna. The gazebo and pier probably my favorite place that you photograph for your sunrise shots. Especially in fog! I wish someone would enlighten us on the mystery of that beam of light. Great capture!

  9. really cool! especially with the sun behind you!

  10. Very, very interesting!!

  11. We saw something similar coming across the bridge a few weeks ago. Breathtaking.

  12. This is one topic I could probably do a post for! I love the strange sky shots, and I’ve got quite a few, but none like those last two .. very unusual !!

  13. The skies never cease to surprise, mystify and please!

  14. Beautiful sky and so unusual to see the ray opposite of the setting sun! With the ray wider at the top, one would think it was beaming upward from down below. If you learn how this came to be, please let us know. Theses are beautiful shots!

  15. Your photos are always so lovely. I think you could do a book just of the changing light in that same setting…. like Monet did with the Rouen cathedral.
    How’s THAT for a compliment?

  16. unexpected surprises…..what a pretty and unusual view!!
