These Barns: An Imposter

Motor Man and I took a day trip to the mountains this weekend. One of our race engine customers is from Dayton, (near Harrisonburg) Va., and had told me some time ago that the area is a barn lover’s paradise. (Thanks again, Jeremy!)

I spotted this, and Motor Man pulled over immediately.

It certainly looked like a barn. Since it was situated just off a tiny little country road, I got out of the vehicle, while Motor Man turned around in the adjacent vacant lot.

Before he pulled back onto the road, he called me over and told me to look around behind the building.

Obviously, this wasn’t a barn, but an old mill. And we noticed new windows have been installed, and it appears some power washing has been done to the front of the building.

This barn imposter is getting a facelift!

  1. That was interesting!!! It’s really big. Wonder if they’re planning to grind with it again….but don’t see any water for the wheel unless the weeds are hiding it!

  2. Beautiful building…….interesting that it’s an old mill – like June said, “where’s the water??” !

  3. What a beautiful old building…..but like June said above, “where’s the water??” since it was an old mill……maybe under the road?? 🙂

  4. Interesting find.

  5. It’s prettty and so happy that someone is giving it a facelift!!!! Love the little porch. Stone foundation too.. 🙂

  6. What a grand old building! With so many windows, I was wondering if someone lived in it.

  7. awesome! wouldn’t it make a cool home!?

  8. Maybe it’s going to be somebodies house! I know of a few barns in PA where I grew up that were turned into homes. I always thought it would be wonderful to live in a barn. You’d never have to close doors!

  9. Awesome! What a find ! – imposing from the front ,too … I could definitely see this being remodeled into a home ..

    We love old barns too!

I also wanted to tell you that we LOVE Sundae’s Sam-O-Ween costume. The poodle is extremely cute but the look on Sundae’s face really makes it. I showed my husband the pictures and he liked her too. I voted for her. (Don’t tell Cali, Andy, Tater and Shelly.) Judy & Cali, Andy, Tater and Shelly (C.A.T.S)

  11. Maybe it’s one of those conversions to a house!? Note: Harrisonburg is only about an hour away from me….. south on I-81. You are getting closer each time.

What a treasure you found, Dianna. The fact it is a old mill adds so much.
What a big building and so many windows . I wonder too, what they are planning to do with it. Time will tell.

  13. What a beautiful area of VA and such an interesting building. I love exploring the back roads – lots of treasures – right?

  14. What a beautiful building! It’s wonderful that someone cares about it and that it’s getting a facelift.
