To Be Or Not To Be…..Adopted

I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to fight off this desire I have to find a kitty to adopt us.

We miss our kitty, Beezy, so much.  It’s been about a year and a half since we had to have her put to sleep.

I know that life is much simpler without a pet to take care of. We’re free to go on vacation without the worry of finding a pet sitter.  There’s no guilt about leaving a little furry loved one for a few days.

I certainly don’t miss cleaning the litter box. And I don’t miss having to vacuum the floors so often because of kitty fur.

Then there’s Motor Man’s mild allergy. But he’s okay with us being adopted again.

One dear friend advises me not to get another pet.  Another one can’t believe I’ve waited this long. Still another one wants to go with me when if when I to go to possibly be adopted. (Because, as any cat owner will tell you, no one owns a cat.)

When I read other blog posts about kitties, I always find myself smiling.

So feel free to comment and share your thoughts.   I already know what a few of my friends will say.

Should we or shouldn’t we? It’s a tough decision.

  1. Adopt! Adopt! I have always felt that life is fuller with furry friends around! You could always get two if you worry about them being lonely while you are away too. lol

  2. I won’t repeat myself because you know I’ll agree with Liz…I can’t imagine life without a kitty but then I don’t travel like you and JR do. Even though I can’t kitty-sit you KNOW between Marshall and Barbara, you’d always have that covered!!!

  3. Well, I am on the fence. Kitties are so precious and Beezy was certainly that. However, JR’s allergies are a concern. They say no pets. I guess he could get a shot once a week to take care of that. Ha! Ha!

  4. The Beez will be missed. It is a tough one. I can see the pros and cons on both sides. I only have one cat now, and he comes and goes as he pleases … but I think I can see which way you’re leaning ………………………………………….

  5. You obviously have so much love to give. I cannot imagine life without pets. And even tho hubby had severe allergies to pet dander, he knew it was an “all or none” situation when he started dating me and just had to build up his defenses over time. They fill my life and my heart. A house is too lonely without them. And cats can manage better than dogs when you travel. What about adopting 2 at once so they’re never alone?! My bro & sis-in-law just added a 2nd cat after losing their old dog, and both kitties are SO happy now. The older one is turning into a kitten again and enjoying playing and running with his younger buddy every day…

  6. You already know what I’m going to say…since I seem to have two of everything. Two dogs, two cats and two boys. I should start an ark! David has allergies too but the short haired cats don’t bother him nearly as much and it cuts down on shedding lots too! You have a wonderful home to offer a kitty…that has none.

  7. I think you should keep your heart open. And preferably a short haired cat will find their way in. Pets add so much to our lives. . . And the above posters have suggested getting 2 – I like that idea!

  8. You remember reading that my kitty was killed about a month ago; I’m just not ready to get another one. Still missing him terribly and will get another someday, but I’m not ready to let go of his memory. Sounds like you’re ready to be adopted.

  9. Ho boy this post represents our very thoughts right now. We have been wrestling with the same decision. I know there is a kitty, probably two out there that we would love to have come live in our country home but I am having the most awful time just making it happen. I keep thinking it will just happen when it is suppose to. It has been a little over two years since we had to put our Country “Z” Cat to sleep and I still don’t think I am ready. She was the bestest sweetest kitty : ) I also have the issue that I am not sure I could take losing one more kitty that I love. Ridiculous, I know. And we are 60 this year. Who would/could I trust to take the bestest care and love our kitty/kitties if something were to happen to us? Best of luck on your decision. I know there would be one kitty with a good life, loved well and respected when she/he adopts you. And you know, “a house is not a home without a cat” so I hear. I believe it too : )

  10. Goodness after writing that novel how could I not tell you that Beezy looks to be the sweetest bestest kitty too! Such a sweet Fuzz Face she is!

I absolutely say adopt! I can’t imagine being without a sweet and funny feline. I love your blog!!

  12. Whether you do or not has nothing to do with what we think. It’s what you want and what will make you enjoy your life a little bit more.

I cannot imagine my life without my critters. But I’m a homebody — they keep me company during the day or when my husband is out of town for his job. We don’t take vacations, so there’s no guilt involved.

You have to do what’s right for you. And what’s right for the animal that you bring into your home.

  13. Ohhhh…the pictures of your last kitty look just like our Missy cat! And, I’m soooo the wrong person to ask…as we have 9 barn cats and our indoor/outdoor kitty Missy! We had to have our last cat put down too…he was definitely our baby as we had him for 12 years. It was so lonely without him…and Missy was our adopted outside cat at the time…and one day, my husband said, she looks cold why don’t you let her come in…and the minute we did she curled right up on the sofa between us…like “oooohhhhh finally I’m home!!!” I was going to put her back out that night, but she was sleeping so curled up and content…then, the next thing we knew she climbed up on our bed and snuggle down between us. I can’t imagine NOT having a kitty….and the good thing with Missy is she stills likes to go outside to do her business….SO…I’m wishing you the very BEST on being adopted..and that hopefully, your new baby will come outdoor trained too :)!!! Sweet blessings!

  14. Run! Don’t walk to your nearest Humane Society! Your kitty was absoultely gorgeous and I can sure see why he had your heart. But another kitty deserves to be loved by someone like you.!

  15. I hope you find your kitty today! I saw your comment on Texwisgirl’s blog. We are looking at a grey tabby today named Ursula at our local shelter. I think she may be a little too feral for us but her face made my heart smile. Good luck today, I hope you find the one that makes your heart happy!
