Saturday, I was in one of the flower beds, doing some planting and a little weeding (very little). Now and then, I would hear a sort of clucking noise, but didn’t think anything of it.
I turned from the flowerbed to see this:
Three duck couples. And yes, they were this close to me. They were so interested in what I was doing, they must have thought it meant something for them to eat. After realizing that wasn’t the case , they decided to hit the road in search of food.
Having my garden hose nearby, the phrase “like a duck to water” crossed my mind.
Yes, I did.
(Do you know how difficult it is to take pictures and spray a garden hose at the same time?)
But one of the girls seemed to enjoy the little shower. A bit of a show-off, don’t you think?
And then, after a shower , but no lunch,
They waddled across our yard and back to the river.

I’ll have to try from FB to see the pic of you (bad girl) spraying the ducks since it didn’t show up on my email page. She was showing off for her date!!

They’re fun to watch aren’t they? We have a few pairs of geese on the hillside by our stock pond but we never see any young ones. We wonder if coyotes could be robbing their nests.
No, I can’t imagine trying to hold the camera still and spray the garden hose. You got a great shot, though! Last week when I was out for a walk, I saw a man on his knees, working in his flower bed, with three ducks supervising. Maybe they would love to garden, if it wasn’t for those webbed feet.

Ducks are so cute – I love Mallards. How come the males get to be pretty and not the females? That always boggles my mind!
The female’s drab colors are camouflage for keeping them safe during nesting.
