A Majestic Surprise

Saturday morning, as I was nearing the end of my morning walk, I caught a glimpse of a large bird flying toward a tree in a nearby yard.

When I looked in that direction, what I saw took my breath. I hurried home (about a five-minute walk), grabbed my camera, jumped in the car and headed back up the street.

This is why:

The bird that I saw flying toward the tree was a second eagle, which landed on the tree beside an eagle already perched there.

I cropped the photo for a closer look.

I’m so glad they were both still there when I returned with my camera.

  1. How lucky you were Dianna! They are awesome birds. Two together Dianna, they have to have a huge old nest near you. Excellent!!!

  2. Wow, look at that – an amazing shot. I’m glad they waited till you got your camera :))

  3. What a treat! Now you’ll be seeking them out along with the sunsets.

  4. Don’t think I’ve ever seen two sitting that closely together but it is an amazing (and magestic) sight to see. I’m so glad they cooperated and sat still for their portrait !!

  10. ooo you’ll want to tag this carefully for all to see. What a find! And to think they were still there…Dianna, you just can’t leave the house without your camera. What a blessing you aren’t writing about the one or two that got away.

  11. How majestic. I love to see eagles around here. We have one that visits our yard down by the water every now and then feeding on his catch. Beautiful photo. Two together!

  12. What a treat…for you and for us! Thanks for making the effort to get this shot. It is so awe inspiring, isn’t it! I love eagles! I am not sure I have ever seen a similar shot with 2 of them together like that!

  13. What a shot!! I was delighted a few years ago when I saw a sea eagle swoop down and catch his lunch from your part of the Pagan. It’s amazing they could both sit so closely on such a small branch/limb of that tree…they’re truly regal birds! And to think, Ben Franklin wanted to make the turkey our national bird!!? LOL!

  22. Wow!
Now, I don’t think I’ll see eagles in London, though Peregrine Falcons nest on the top of Tate Modern.

Do you often see eagles in your neck of the woods?

  23. What an amazing moment for you, Dianna! I can just imagine how excitedly you rushed home to get your camera…and how thrilled you were to see the eagles still perched there when you returned. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime shots! So happy for you! 🙂

  24. AMAZING!!! I’m so glad they “waited” for you…must have known how good at sharing you are!!

  25. We have a pair that live in the woods next to the farm here…their nest is the most amazing piece of work I have ever seen. They truly are the most majestic of all birds…Certainly deserving of representing our nation. You captured them fantastically! Congrats on getting two at once.
