Barn Charm (And More)

As I mentioned last week, Motor Man and I travel to Cambridge, Maryland every summer for a boat race. Back in 2009, (before I was blogging or had ever heard of Barn Charm), we discovered this barn as we were exploring the back roads near Easton.

This next picture of the barn was taken during our trip last week.

But even more amazing is the transformation of the house on this property. This was in 2009, when it had just been moved to this location.

The house in 2011.

And as it looks now (from the other side). I can’t imagine the expense involved in moving and renovating this house.

Two years ago, there was a For Sale sign in the yard. That’s no longer there, but the house appears to still be vacant. Every year, we drive an extra few miles just to pass by this property. And every year, I look for signs that someone is living there.

Maybe next year…

  1. What a neat place! It must be selling for a fortune! It is huge…lovely photos too!

  2. It’s a gorgeous house – there’s just GOT to be some kind of interesting story here! Not occupied – seems such a waste. It looks kind of lonely sitting there.

  3. to me that house needs to be near the water front. it screams bring me a lighthouse. i wonder why? that is how i see it in my brain. i love the work going on. (:

  4. Glad it’s on a beautiful piece of property. I wonder if they will plant some trees.

  5. It’s so beautiful…hope someone with lots of money falls in love with it and next year, you’ll see someone living there!

  6. I think that means you are supposed to by it. It is lovely

  7. oh wow, it’s a GORGEOUS house!

  8. Amazing renovation project! & it’s in the Second Empire style; one of the best ! The blue sky matches the blue roof perfectly ….

  9. glad they are fixing it up. the barn deserves saving, as well as that pretty house.

  10. Wow – amazing! I love to watch renovation – it’s so thrilling to me when people decide to give new life to something with history instead of knocking it down and starting all over again! Gorgeous shots…and Marshall’s right – I went back to look at the blue roof after reading his comment – I missed it the first time! Linked up some Oregon barns today for the first time!

  11. I do hope they will restore the barn, too! What a lovely and big house, I’d love to see the inside! It could use some landscaping, but it’s still a pretty place.

  12. That property is gorgeous. Can’t imagine why someone doesn’t want to live there.

  13. Wonderful old barn! There have been houses in our area which have been a long time in the making. Perhaps they are paying as they go and have to wait a while for more money before going forward. It’s a beautiful house ~ would get lost in it I think!

  14. Beautiful house. I hope someone moves in soon and renovates the barn too.

  15. Looks almost surreal, like a doll house built on an old farm. Your photos tell a nifty story. I hope someday someone moves in and makes the place a happy home. 🙂

  16. That is a beautiful house…wish we could tour the inside.

  17. Fascinating! That’s one huge house and lots of money went into that renovation. Looks like a little was done on the barn foundation, but none on the roof. It’s one of those projects you really want to know what’s going on, and hopefully you’ll see more progress the next time you go past it.

  18. Neat barn, gorgeous house! Sorry that no one lives there.

  19. I imagine it was pretty expensive to move it! It does look lonely there.

  20. Seems so strange that someone would put that kind of money in it if they weren’t planning on living there for a very long time. I agree; there must be an interesting story there.

  21. Why in the world would someone spend so much money on the project & not live there? Maybe it’s their winter home? I can’t imagine the expenses, either, but some people have more money than they know what to do w/! =0
    LoL!
