October Snow Barn Charm

Last weekend, Motor Man and I took an overnight trip to West Virginia with friends. We went on a couple of train rides; you’ll probably read more about that in a few days.

But, since today is Tuesday, I wanted to participate in Tricia’s Barn Charm. I took photos of lots of barns on our trip.  I just had one problem: I couldn’t choose just ONE barn picture to share. So I’m sharing four.

This first barn was somewhere near the Harrisonburg area of Virginia. It was snowing heavily there as we passed  through on Saturday morning.  I love the little fence-lined lane (road?) beside the barn.

Snow on the roof of this cinder block barn. And a lone cow.

It’s pretty obvious in this next picture that this was a snowy day in autumn. There’s just a little orange remaining on the trees to the right. And on the left, the snow on the tree branches almost looks like cotton balls.

My last photo, just like the others, was taken from the car as we were driving down the highway, thus the blurred tree in the foreground.  The afternoon sun was shining on a little fall foliage up in the mountains.

So how about you? Are you able to choose a favorite from these snowy autumn barn photos?

  1. Harrisonburg barn is my favorite. I love those country barns.

  2. As if I could choose just one. They’re all beautiful…love the snow from a distance!!

  3. Oh my I bet people there didn’t expect to have snow on Halloween weekend. Your photos are awesome!

  4. They’re all great photos but I think I have a “tie” as to my favorite…..the one with the lone cow is interesting because of the one dark spot (cow) in the field of white….and my other favorite is the third one showing the little bit of orange on the trees. It just FEELS cold looking at it! Good job……

  5. Such beautiful countryside!

  6. Its hard to believe these are not winter shots! While the snow makes them a beautiful winter wonderland, its weird having a snowtober in this neck of the woods!!!

  7. oooo…the last one’s colors are gorgeous, although the snowy ones are lovely too. Perhaps you have a Christmas card here…yes, Christmas is on my mind.

  8. Love that first shot – the muted colors and grayness just make it so cold – great mood! Nice series of barns.

  9. I like the one with the silo, I think it could have been moved a little off center to give a little more drama, but it is an awesome photo and worthy of note! Great shots all!

    • Hi, Jim,
You may be correct with your suggestion. However, I was a passenger in a car travelling about 60 mph, and felt lucky to even get the shot! Thanks for visiting and commenting today. Looking forward to checking out your blog.

  10. Looks like a great trip, looking forward to reading more about it! All the barn photos are good, but the first one is my fav. It reminds me of the one my dad had on the farm. That is a beautiful area you were driving through!

  11. Good Morning Dianna! The third one does it for me. Beautiful picture! But they are all charming 🙂

  12. i clicked through barn charm, not realizing this was you. this is gorgeous and i LOVE the snow!! i favor the second one because of the cattle!!

  13. LOVE the one with the silo! All are wonderful though.

  14. It blows my mind that people are getting snow this early & I know I say that every year, but I just can’t get over it!

I think I’d have to say that the 1st one is my fave… I, too, like the tree lined lane in front of the barn!

Great shots & I thank you very much for linking these beauties to Barn Charm =)))

be careful in all that snow =0

  15. You know me, I LOVE snow but even though it doesn’t have as much as the other pics & it’s a bit blurry I just love the light on the fall foliage up in the hills of that shot – I can picture seeing it in person from here! The green of the pasture and the dried corn stalks and dairy cows…Love it. Good for you for trying to get a shot even at 60mph…that alone makes it a winner in my book:) Looks like a lovely trip – hope you had good roads!

  16. i like the starkness of the 2nd shot, but the blurred color in the 4th is also good. 🙂

  17. I love the one with the lone cow, munching away, ignoring the snow…!

  18. All are great!! And these were all shot while riding at speed? Very good! It’s not easy to line up the in-motion shots ! The wintry pics are good, and I think I like snow more when I’m not standing in it 🙂

  19. They’re all so lovely but there’s just something about a barn with snow on the ground.

  20. No use asking me to choose…I like each one for different reasons! Plus I just love snow shots.

  21. Very nice! The last barn was my favorite since it looks as though it’s had sheds added to the sides every few years as the need arose; sorta like ours 😉

  22. I like the third one with the silo and the flocked snow cotton balls in the foreground. I don’t like being in the snow, but snowy photos are always so pretty.

  23. Very nice! For me, it’s a toss up between the first picture and the third one. Looks like you had a nice trip!

  24. Isn’t it strange to see autumn foliage and winter snow? Love those barn pics – VA is full of charming barns as is NC!

  25. The four barns make a neat series that shows what the countryside is like.

  26. The third one is my favorite. I like the layers with the tree in the front, the barn, and then the trees in the background. Lovely, all are, though.

  27. Dianna, these are wonderful photos. If I had to pick, I’d pick the third. It is awesome!

  28. Great photos! I didn’t know that storm went that far south. We got snow here in New Brunswick Canada too. I like the third photo best. Blessings, Pamela

  29. Snow in October is crazy, but it gives a new beauty to the barns!

  30. I don’t recall ever seeing a cinder block barn. I do like the way the color of the trees is highlighted in the last one. Hard to pick a favorite barn though, each is unique.

  31. Awesome! Isn’t it amazing how you can take a drive and find that much snow this early in the year? Your barn charms are a peach. I think they’re all super. 🙂

  32. I’ve said it before, but I just LOVE barns. They just begged to be photographed. I love the third shot – it looks so similar to where I grew-up in the country in Michigan.

  33. A wonderful selection of barns….love seeing the snow. We had a bit here, but not nearly this much. Love the black and white. genie

  34. Shirley Matthews Dunn

They all are wonderful! If I had to pick it would be the one with sun peeping through.

  35. Very nice barn shots.

I’m still in denial that some areas of the country are experiencing snow already!
