Random Five Friday

Who’s ready for some randomness?

1.) Gypsy says “thank you” again to Sammy and his pawrents for her kitty cube (Christmas gift).  After ignoring it for the past couple of months, she recently rediscovered it, and has been playing in it once again.

2.) Perhaps it’s because we had a such a cold, damp spring, but I just hadn’t been interested in planting anything…..until this week. With a few warm days this week, I’ve started buying and planting. But I’m definitely cutting back on how much I plant this year; the thought of dragging water hoses all over the yard to keep everything watered all summer isn’t appealing to me .

3.) With that in mind, remember this vintage bicycle that I bought while antiquing one day with my friend, Donna? I’ve been on the watch for a basket for it, but couldn’t decide if I wanted wicker or wire. Then I remembered this little tin flower bucket that I had stored in the garage. Motor Man drilled a couple of holes in it and attached it to the bike for me. Yesterday, I planted lantana and lobelia in it. I’m hoping that keeping it sprayed with Liquid Fence will convince the deer that it isn’t their personal smorgasboard.

4.) As I was working outside yesterday afternoon, I saw something that made me smile. Bride Swan and Groom Swan both appeared to be taking afternoon naps.

It makes me happy that both of them feel so secure in our yard that they render themselves this vulnerable.

5.) Today is forecast to be a rainy, stormy day. But yesterday…yesterday was almost perfect, especially at sunrise.

  1. I’m glad Gypsy is rediscovering the cube….Sam did that with his too when he was little. Love that the bride and groom are so at ease in your yard…they know they’re safe….! You picked just the right things for your bike basket – beautiful!

Luv the bike, esp. on “Ride Your Bike to Work Day.” Rode mine (in the rain) to my Daughter’s. What a nice day to enjoy a cup of tea and listen to the rain. The Swans might like cracked corn, but you may get more than you bargained for. Have a great weekend.

  3. Ah…beautiful sunrise…it’s no wonder the bride and groom are so content. Gypsy looks pretty happy too!
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Ahhh…kitties like babies come with delightful gear. I think buckets must be quite the thing now. GS2 had a colorful bucket for hunting eggs at Easter. Your lantana will complement the blue of the bike. I do hope the liquid fence works for you all.
Bride and Groom swan look warm in their puddles of sunshine on the lawn.

  5. Gypsy! Bride and Groom Swan.. always lovely and a treat. Cute idea for the flowers on the bike. I spent an hour planting petunies in a pot only to find yesterday that a gray squirrel had munched a third of them. Not the first time. Have chicken wire around it for now! I can’t get in the mood to plant anything… There are kittens to watch. Did you get my link?

  6. Good morning, Dianna. I think the deer will avoid lantana but not sure about the lobelia. Very cute idea to use the bucket. Did you get deluged last night? I won’t have to pull out hoses for a week or two!

  7. I cut back on flowers this year, too. Decided that I always overdo and given the job situation was trying to cut back a bit. Not that I can go cold turkey!! Gotta have a few! I used Deer Out but may have to try your Liquid Fence—looks like it is good for bunnies, too, of which we have many. 🙂

  8. You have the most original ideas for planters! Hope the deer don’t decide to snack. Always love to see the swans!

  9. Love the “basket” on your bike. We have 1 1/2″ inches of rain and still rising. Sun by noon they say!

  10. the bucket is the perfect addition to the bike! love bride and groom. 🙂

  11. Friday again ?! Bring on the randomness …!
These are great — but I think the swan naps steal the show !- extremely trusting…
& … glad you ‘found’ the right bike basket !

  12. I am so glad to see the swans safe and sound. There is a pile of white feathers from something, that is no more, on my bank. I was so afraid it was the swan. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to worry you.

  13. That “basket” on the bike is perfect! So cute right along with Gypsy and the swans. Your blog is a happy place (as always)!

  14. Woo Hoo!!! Cubes is fun! Mes loves the bicycle and that Bride and Groom will sleeps in your yard!

  15. Isn’t it fun how pets discover items they’ve lived around fr so long. It’s really curious too. Gypsy is so pretty.
I understand about the water-hose and gardening. Having plants is nice, but the work to keep them alive can suck the joy right out of the fun.
I like that bucket flower basket. Great idea to use it on the bike. Very clever idea indeed. I’ve never used liquid fence. I hope it’s work well for you.
I guess groom & bride swans feel you & MM love and protection for them. They paid you & MM A wonderful compliment.
Great sunrise photo. It’s that goofy time of year where one day’s a diamond and the next day is not so much.
Hope you have a great weekend!
    🙂

  16. Gypsy was just taking a break from her toy. Looks like she really enjoys it!
I like the ideal of the bucket on the bike for a planter. I am sure the swans
feel at home with you guys as good as you are two them. Have a good weekend.

  17. I love the way you converted the bicycle into a planter. What a wonderfully fun, creative idea!

  18. Dianna, driving to the farm last week, we came over a hill and to a lower lying area filled with spring runoff … as far as I could see were white birds in the water … all swans! There must have been 50 – no I couldn’t get a picture for I was too far away but I immediately thought of you and your swans 🙂

The bucket on the bike is adorable!

  19. Those swans are adorable. They must feel might comfortable in your backyard to curl up and nap.

  20. You have the sweetest most peaceful random days! 🙂

  21. What a great idea for the basket–looks great. And how sweet that your loving swans feel safe enough to nap in your yard!
    Great “randoms” Dianna!

  22. The bucket is perfect on the bike! I hope the deer leave it alone. Sleeping swans in your yard–beautiful!
