Random Five Friday

It was another quiet week around here…but I think I can “round up” a little randomness.

1.) This planter on Main Street in our little town has been beautiful all summer. I’m amazed that the petunias are still so pretty this late into the fall.

2.) Last weekend, I spotted this boat with the bright blue sail, and went up to the balcony to take pictures of it.  Note the Canada Geese; thankfully they’re in the water and not in our yard. As much as I dislike them, whenever I see a group of them, I find myself counting to be sure there’s an even number. Since they mate for life, I’m always sad to see an odd number. (32 in this group.)

3.) The swans haven’t been here for a couple of weeks. How do you miss an “uncuddly” animal this much?

4.) Update to the “squirrel and biddy” story: Yesterday morning, around daybreak, I went out into our garage to get something from my car. As I was about to walk back in the house, I heard something that sounded just like someone knocking on the exterior door. Frightened, I hurried in the house, but then turned around, and, through the window of the door, saw THE squirrel up in the little planter. He was busy burying another walnut, or perhaps the same one…who knows? The sound I heard was him causing the planter to bump against the door.  At least, this time, he just moved the biddy over a little and didn’t remove it from the planter. Okay, squirrel wins, I’ll leave the walnut there.

5.) A friend posted this little video clip on her Facebook page,  so I shared it on mine. But I thought I’d also share it with my blogging friends. It’s really cute, but I have a feeling this little fella was “put up” to this by someone… Whether that was the case, or this was his idea, his parents have their hands full with him.

Happy Weekend!

  1. Oh! Why’d she take the mike away from mini-George? That was too cute! And I’m with you on the Canada Geese. UGH.

  2. Thanks for sharing the ‘little’ things that really make our life so rich. How many people miss them and miss life? Flag and flowers – beautiful.

  3. That flags and flowers photo is just beautiful = like a card 🙂

I found a swan photo that I’ll post just for you — you’ll see them in the ”
Great white north” – neat 🙂

and that little guy was just adorable.

    Here’s one for the squirrel!!

  4. Pretty flowers on Main Street and it’s amazing the sweet potato vines look so good too – I have to water mine almost every day to keep it from “fainting”. I saw that clip somewhere online yesterday – SO CUTE!

  5. Dianna, the plant on Main Street is a sweet potato plant. Kurt and I just found that out yesterday 🙂

  6. Main Street flowers are gorgeous. Nice photo.

  7. Beautiful first photo in your randomness. I like that the flag has caught a breeze. Have you any idea where bride and groom swan go when the seasons change? Adorable video. Got just a little side tracked.

    • I think the swans stay nearby, Georgette. Folks tell me they see them in the town of Smithfield, a little further upriver. Perhaps it’s a little more sheltered there.

  8. Happy Friday! Cute about the squirrel!! and the thumping noises have to be a little spooky especially this time of year. Do you normally see the beautiful swan couple in winter? Going to be a beautiful weekend–enjoy! Thanks for another week of wonderful days of mine!

  9. I know I’ve said it before, but I do love your RFF. The Main Street photo is so very pretty. And that squirrel, persistent little fellow, isn’t he?

  10. great, now the squirrels are knocking on the door for food… 🙂

  11. I was going to say “now you have to leave it there!”.. He’ll definitely be back for it !
And I’d have to say my favorite pic this time around is of Bride .. golden hour, I believe ????

  12. I too love your RFF! Your photos and stories to go along with them always give me a huge lift – and this was no exception.

  13. So fun about the squirrel! I don’t want the swans to stop visiting. I feel like they are safe there with you.. 🙂

  14. Wonderful as always 🙂 Have a fantastic week-end!

  15. I often see geese, but never thought about counting to see if there was an even number. Now that I know the significance of having an even number of geese, I’ll probably start counting every time I see a group of them. 🙂

    • It’s just a little quirk I have, Sheryl. One of the saddest things I’ve seen was a lone goose on the beach on the Outer Banks earlier this summer. Not another goose in sight. 😦

    Another good R5F!

  17. Good roundup! Happy new week! ~ Sheila

  18. LOL at the video! Some kids don’t need any encouragement! I know what you mean about missing our “usual” visitors. We saw quite a few petunias on our travels–making me consider some for our garden next year. That squirrel definitely likes your basket.
